Kinsale Pottery and Art School Is a teaching centre for arts and crafts, with a large and exciting gallery-space on-site. The pottery is not about mass-producing repetitious work for the dinner table. It is a studio pottery with one-off, original sculptural work as its main theme. The launch of The Olcote Gallery, upstairs in the Coach-house at Olcote, has allowed a group of Irish artists, both in 3D and 2D media, to exhibit their work throughout the year. In addition, during the year there are several solo or two artist exhibitions, and two or three student shows for students of Kinsale Pottery and Art School
Adrian Wistreich, Ceramic Artist.
After more than 20 years of corporate life in London, working as a publisher and research consultant, I left the rat-race to pursue my ambition of becoming an artist and teacher. I completed a diploma in Ceramics and Design at Hackney College of Art, London, moved to Kinsale with my family and set-up the Kinsale Pottery and Art School.
My desire to teach comes from my experience as a communicator, I have learned to find and stimulate the artist in us all, regardless of our experience of art.
I tend to be sculptural in my own work drawing on a love of form and texture through smoke-fired abstract ceramic pieces and studies of people. I have increasingly brought colour to my work developing my own stoneware glazes, which are available for students to try out. I want to break down the barriers between traditional craft skills and the apparent inaccessibility of fine art
Adrian Wistreich's work to date includes a variety of figurative sculptures in fired clay, cement and fibreglass and plaster, both indoor and outdoor work, thrown and hand-built ceramics including some one-off pieces of tableware. In the last two years, Adrian has been concentrating on sculptural ceramics, developing themes from early sculpture and traditional designs, as well as exploring a range of decorative techniques. While Adrian participates in exhibitions on a regular basis, the pottery is open to visitors, and artwork is for sale all year round.
